My all time favorite camp item is a trigger start, self igniting, torch. MAPP gas is better because U can braze with it. This is the fastest, ez est, safest way to light a camp stove, lantern, pilot light, propane heated playa shower...

Fri, August 19, 2005 - 9:06 PMA metal trash can is an excellent Playa MacGyver item for fire making tasks. Use it to store charcoal, lighter fluid, gasoline, etc. both in your vehicle and at your camp. If you have a small portable grill, the trash can lid can be used as a base plate.
In 2001, I hitched a ride on the Dragon taxi as the sun was coming up the morning after the burn when someone called out "who's got breakfast for the Dragon crew?" Before I left my camp to party, I had lit the coals of my grill with a smoldering ember from the Man's remains. The Dragon drove to my camp, the grill was ready to go, and I used the trash can lid to transport it onto the Dragon where we made eggs, hash browns, coffee, and bloody marys.
